The Federación Latinoamericana de Circos, member of FMC since 2020, in collaboration with the Colombian circus organizations celebrated the first convention of the Latin-American circuses in Bogotá. In the beautiful tent of the National Circus School “Circo para Todos” more than 250 delegates arrived from different countries -Mexico, Venezuela, Chile, Ecuador, Brazil, Bolivia and Colombia- to demonstrate their support, and unity in the preservation of the values of our art form, and discuss the current tendencies, and problems in the sector.
The Fédération Mondiale du Cirque was invited too, and represented by its Executive Director, Zsuzsanna Mata.
It was an important occasion to discuss the situation of circuses in the continent, exchange experience, share useful practices, and support the initiative to create a new circus law in Colombia for the protection and development of circus arts, and supporting and helping circus artists, especially those who have already retired.
The Minister of Culture of Colombia took part at the closing ceremony of the convention, and in his intervention repeatedly assured the community about the full patronage of the authorities. Another important signal was that the Director, responsible for the circus at the Ministry of Culture of Colombia, fully assisted the 3 days program.
The local television and media paid vast attention to the successful convention.
During the meeting the participants received the great news that the 2 of August has been officially declared “Circus Day” in Mexico. We congratulate the Mexican circus community!
The delegates voted for organizing this international forum every year.
In 2024 Venezuela, in 2025 Brazil, and in 2026 Ecuador will host the convention.
